Dr. Billy McMillin, OD
Owner/Optometrist
Billy McMillin is the proud Owner of McMillin Eyecare, taking ownership in January 2021. Originally from Kingston, Tennessee, Billy graduated from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville in 2005 before earning his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Alabama-Birmingham School of Optometry in 2009. That same year, he moved to Kingsport to join McMillin Eyecare, a practice founded by his uncle in the early 1980s.
Billy’s passion for eye care stems from his love for helping and caring for people. He believes there’s no better way to make a difference than by improving someone’s vision and ensuring the health of their eyes. His favorite aspect of the profession is the long-lasting relationships he builds with his patients, connections that often span generations.
From the very first day of optometry school, Billy knew he was in the right profession. His enthusiasm for his work remains strong, and he feels truly blessed to come to work every day.
Professionally, Billy is a past president of the Northeast Society of Optometric Physicians and remains an active member. He is also a proud member of the American Optometric Association (AOA), the Tennessee Association of Optometric Physicians (TAOP), and Cleinman Performance Partners.
Outside of the office, Billy has been happily married to his wife, Cara, for 17 years. Together, they have three sons—Will (12), Henry (9), and Tucker (9). A passionate University of Tennessee fan, Billy enjoys cheering on his team whenever possible.
He also has a deep love for the outdoors, spending his free time hiking, fishing, bird hunting, and enjoying nature. An accomplished runner, Billy has completed two marathons, showcasing his dedication and perseverance both in and out of his professional life.
